Our story

We work between East Africa and Germany. Our focus is climate resilience as a concrete answer to the question of how coffee farming can remain viable in the long term. Together with local producers, we promote resilient farming systems such as agroforestry and regenerative agriculture. At the same time, we are unlocking the potential of alternative coffee species such as Excelsa—still barely present in the market, even though it has been cultivated for generations.

HyCoffee is the bridge between research and practice: scientific insights brought directly to the farm, into the supply chain, and into the cup.

Sophie previously worked at the United Nations before specializing in research on coffee and climate change. The discovery that climate-resilient coffee species already exist—largely unknown and barely commercialized—stayed with her. Research alone was not enough.

Charlotte has worked in international development cooperation and advises international organizations and foundations on strategy and partnerships. From her experience, she knows how private sector partnerships can drive real change. Her motivation: trade instead of aid—fair trade partnerships instead of external assistance.
